District Band/Orchestra/Choir
First, of all, I'd like to say that going to District Band was very fun. The music was great, except for one piece that I didn't like (It just sounded kind of dumb). We did pretty well, and it sounded really cool, at least from where I was sitting. Choir sounded really cool and I especially liked their last two or three songs. Orchestra.....Well.....They needed some work.....To say the least. They went up there and played great hits such as 'Happy Birthday' and 'Yankee Doodle'. AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN A PLAY COMPLEX VERSION. This was just the skeleton pickings. AND THEY PRACTICED IT FOR 6.5 HOURS!!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not insulting those players who were in the orchestra. I have seen those people who are in the orchestra play before, and they are really awesome at it. I think that it was the clinician. She spent so much time on such easy songs. And when they got out to play, she counted out loud for them THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SONG. FOR EVERY STINKING SONG. She counted so loud, actually, that I, who was sitting in the back row (of my section, which equivocated to the second or third row from the back of the room) heard her counting. Now Asymptote, as I have come to name her, was sitting even more closely, and I will write down what she heard. 1...2...3...4.5..1...2...3...4.5.6. That's roughly what she told me that it sounded like. She wasn't even keeping the beat right, NO WONDER IT TOOK THEM SO LONG TO GET IT. THEIR CLINICIAN COULDEN'T COUNT!!!! Ick. But I think that the District Band and the Choir did a great job. The Orchestra also did a good job, given the clinician that they were put under. Perhaps I shouldn't insult her like this, but the Orchestra's material was terrible. They could have played something much better and more Fantasmic! (-:
